Casual Friday: Best Teen Shows You May Not Be Watching

Hi Misfiteers,

It's Friday. WHOOO!! What better day to talk about teen shows. I'm a bit obsessed. I'll admit it. I love them. I'm not sure what it is. The dialogue, the storylines, but there isn't much I like better, except maybe teen books ;o) I'm going to forgo talking about Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries because I'm convinced most people already watch those and so I'm not adding anything new to your life.

Today I'm talking about current shows on TV, but I have to give a shout out to Dawson's Creek and My So-Called Life because they are what teen is made of. Also, Veronica Mars is a must-see. The Carrie Diaries wasn't very realistic, but if you're looking for a show that showcases the '80s and the superb acting of AnnaSophia Robb with some of the most fun, heartfelt moments in a teen show give this one a watch.

So here's a few teen shows that are currently on that you may not be watching...

Teen Wolf - MTV

It's not for the faint at heart. And dare I say it's not very similar to its '80s namesake, but OMG I'm in love with this show. It's pretty dark, especially season 3, but the pacing is excellent along with the fact that somehow they re-invent themselves every season. Also, Stiles Stilinski and Scott McCall are the goofiest, most real besties on TV. I suggest watching this one from the beginning since a lot of it layers off the season before it. If you're an Amazon Prime member you can stream the first 3 seasons for free.

Switched At Birth - ABC Family

The title says it all. It's about two girls and their families struggling through life when they find out they've been raising someone else's biological child. This show single-handedly made me want to learn ASL (American Sign Language). It's pretty drama-filled which is what I love. The show's cast represents a wide range of diversity which I think is needed. There's also definitely a lot of heart here.

Finding Carter - MTV

This is a newer show about a girl who was kidnapped then found and returned to her family. Besides the intriguing premise, this show has done a great job of getting us invested in these characters. Kathryn Prescott's Carter is so believable and sincere and real. There's only been a few episodes but I'm definitely hooked. I'm even shipping Maxlor (Carter's sister Taylor and a boy who is too adorable for words). If you like realistic-ish teen shows, give this one a chance.

I haven't seen The Fosters or Awkward yet, but I hear great things about both these shows. Also, I've heard Skins is a good one to check out too. Bonus, Kathryn Prescott (Carter) was on Skins too.

What do you think? Did I miss any that you watch?

I'm taking a break from teen shows tonight and going to see Guardians of the Galaxy instead! Excited about this one. Hope your weekend is full of fun too!

Love, love, love Teen Wolf! Stiles is my favorite. :) Awkward is also hilarious, imho. But, no mention of Buffy??? Even though it's off the air (but totally on Netflix) it's a MUST watch teen show for me!

I follow Switched at Birth too! Sure, it's got all the typical angst/drama but the use of ASL makes it stand out. Plus, I like that it digs into some interesting issues surrounding Deaf culture, race/ethnicity, family, etc.

Finding Carter is new to me, though – thanks for putting it on my radar! Sounds like it could be quite fascinating from a psychological perspective... I might just have to give it a try.

Yes! Buffy! I actually never watched that one. I KNOW. I'm ashamed for me. Lol. Yay Teen Wolf!

I like that about SAB too, danya! Yes! That's what I like best about FC is the psychological part! Definitely a must-see!

*Gasps!* Lol ~ well, when you hv some free time, I highly recommend watching BtVS. Once you get past the cheese in the first few episodes, it's epic. :-)

I really like The Fosters. Max from Finding Carter is also on it. He's not one of the family, so he's not a main character, but he's a friend of one of them.

I saw that, Jenna! I was thinking of catching up with that one too ;o) I love Max.

I haven't watched Teen Wolf yet, but I just marathoned "Finding Carter" this weekend and am totally into its twistiness! I've only watched the pilot of "The Fosters," but I definitely wanna give that one a shot. And you know I love "Switched at Birth" ;)
