World Cup Wednesday!

Misfiteers!

It's that time again--World Cup time! If you're a football* fan, and judging by my Twitter feed a good number of you are, this is the big sports event for national teams.

A time of sportsmanship and extraordinary accomplishments.

A time of just as outrageous celebrations.

And apparently also an excuse for my entire country needs to dress in orange.

And a time of community, even if we inadvertently end up on opposite sides of a matchs. It's one of the things I love most about being a sports fan. And, in fact, one of the things I love most about being a writer, because let's face it, we have a pretty awesome community too.

It got me thinking: we don't really have that World Cup for Words. We don't have supporters cheering us on when we find the perfect turn of phrase. Most of our accomplishments happen in private, shared only with our computer.

But does that make them any less extraordinary? We create entire worlds, fill them with real characters, tell stories. That sounds pretty extraordinary to me.

So today, when you've made your word count for today, or when you write that one perfect sentence, celebrate like a pro. Or like a footballer, that is.
