If you'll recall, we've changed up our format a little bit for these posts. Because we've all gotten so used to getting our thoughts down in 140 characters, we're taking the discussion to twitter! Every Monday, we'll be talking about our Pep Rally question on twitter and we'd love you to join in. Just keep an eye out for the #MisfitPepRally hashtag!
Hey, Misfiteers! Today is a very special day. No, not for you - for me. It's my anniversary! Six years ago, my husband put a (second) ring on it, and we got all extra-official-like.
Even more importantly, though, we got together nearly ten years ago, which, if you happen to know how old I am, means we got together when we were - tada! - teenagers. (And I know I'm definitely not the only Misfit that's true for!)
So maybe that's why YA romance is so magical to me; because I know firsthand that the love you find in your teen years can be the love you find for life. And my favorite YA romances are the ones that make you feel the same way, like the couples you're reading about are going to last far beyond the last page.
For me, the couples that make that the most believable are the ones who start off as friends. Anna and Etienne in ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS. (Though Stephanie Perkins gets the benefit of being able to confirm this in LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR.) Taylor and Jonah in JELLICOE ROAD. (Which Melina Marchetta gets to confirm in THE PIPER'S SON.) Hmm... perhaps there's another theme at work here ;)
So, what about you, Misfiteers? Which YA couples do you believe will last long beyond The End?
