Monday Pep Rally is a weekly feature where the Misfits post a question for you, the reader, to answer. You can answer on your own blog and link in the comments, or just answer here!
My plan for the story itself has shifted in that time, and the more I think about it, the more I realize the major role that Cooper's and Laurel's best friends, (Meredith and Auggie) will play in the book. They're going to have to be great, likable, standout supporting characters for this book to work.
This has made me think a lot about well-written BFFs in young adult books that I've read lately. It's so easy to fall in love with the main character, right? You spend a lot of time with the main character and many times the story is told from that character's voice. So for a supporting character to really make a difference, s/he needs something special for the reader to connect with.
One of my absolute favorites, so much that I kind of wish there was a spin-off book about him, is Hassan Harbish from John Green's An Abundance of Katherines. Hassan is a muslim teenager, and he's lazy, hilarious, and obsessed with Judge Judy.
I. Love. Him.
What about you guys? Who are some of your favorite supporting characters, and what made them stand out to you?
