PITCH:
OCD, shoelace-obsessed Adam and dreamy quarterback Beckett have one thing in common—Brynna. She might be Adam’s whimsical best friend and secret crush, but she’s Beckett’s girlfriend. When Bynna's heart condition turns fatal, Adam and Beckett will have to stop hating each other because if she dies… they’ll only have each other to lean on.
FIRST 250:
ADAM
I’m late for my appointment. But that doesn’t bother me as much as why I’m late. My shrink moves to an upscale office in Cleveland but neglects to tell me, OCD patient who fears everything orange, that her new office door matches a Halloween pumpkin. While she waits inside her office, wondering why I’m irresponsibly late, I’m outside—pacing back and forth, cursing myself for being a loser because I can’t touch an orange door. I'm a prisoner of my own mind.
I tell myself to try the door again, but when I go to push it open, I'm hit with a wave of nausea so strong I cover my mouth to stop myself from puking in the hall. I squeeze my head between my hands and step back. There’s a small green bench by the elevator. Green is good. I sit on the bench and dial Brynna’s number on my cell phone. She answers after the first ring.
“Hey, Shaggy.” There’s no explanation why Brynna’s voice makes me feel safe, but it does. “I thought you were at your doctor’s.”
“I am. But remember she moved to a new office? Her door. It’s orange.”
“No way.” I nod though Brynna can’t see me. “Okay, well, it’s not like you’re so psycho you have a head in your freezer, right?”
I look at my phone and laugh. “You're so weird.”
“But you love me, right?”
That’s an understatement.
