Band Geek Thursday: Marieke's playlist for #SecretSciFi

Hey Misfiteers!

I think I can still get away with this... Happy New Year! Hope your 2013 will be amazing! <3

So in my previous Band Geek Thursday I talked about not really having a playlist. Sure, I have some songs I associate with characters and events, but rarely songs that really encompasses the story for me, or help me write.

While prepping for this post, I planned to collect the songs for my YA psychological thriller: HERO DAYS. Now HD is a funny little thing. I love it with a passion, but I struggled a long time with pinning it down. The characters are complex, their motivations even more so. And as a result, it took me forever to find the right songs; I still don't have more than a few. (Though the ones I do have... oh, beauty.)

That was a nice plan and all, but then I popped by my Mom's shortly after the new year and I heard this song I'd loved and everything just clicked. It was the PERFECT song. PERFECT.

But not for HERO DAYS. (You guys, Dahlia is going to KILL ME for saying this.)

Because about a month ago two characters announced themselves to me. On an alien planet. In a Cold War setting. In a story that is wonderfully tragic, with death, terrorism, secret meetings in sewers, so many diverse characters, and two of my favorite characters since, well, Xan and Wulf.

And this was their theme song, their love song, their story. Not just that, every single song on the original album fits the development of the story, the history of the characters, their hopes and dreams, and everything in between. All the pieces of the story fell together perfectly.

Basically, my story has a soundtrack.

Apparently, #SecretSciFi is going to be very 80s.

We thought we were the human race, but we were just another borderline case.

I can't wait to tell you all about it! :)
