Band Geek Thursday - Gina's Play List for SHADOW PARK

My playlist for SHADOW PARK is a lot different from my playlist for LAST YEAR'S MISTAKE. While both are angsty in their own way, SP (a psychological thriller) is definitely a darker, sadder story, and the songs needed to match.

SP is about Ellie, a girl doing everything she can to not move on from the death of her boyfriend - and who starts to think she's losing her mind when she learns she might be able to bring him back from the dead. Soon her only link to reality is Hayden, a boy who cares about her more than she'd like to admit, and who Ellie is undeniably drawn to.

I originally thought Taylor Swift had won the honors of theme song again when I heard her song Haunted - the line He will try to take away my pain/and he just might make me smile/but the whole time I'm wishing he was you instead fit so perfectly, along with the theme of losing someone you thought was perfect.

But then I heard Shadow of the Day by Linkin Park, and it just fit. The mournful undertones, the sunset imagery, the way it laments having to start over, all made it the perfect song. Sometimes beginnings aren't so simple/Sometimes goodbye's the only way. Yes. This.

I also had to have Sweet Surrender by Sarah McLaughlin on this playlist. Are you an angel? Am I already that gone? I only hope that I won't disappoint you. Ugh. Chills. And not to give anything away, but it also goes well with my first-ever sex scene that happens to appear in this book :)

The other must-have on this list was To Make You Feel My Love by Adele. When Ellie loves someone, she loves with everything she has. This was one of those songs that moved me to tears when I thought about it in the context of my book. When the evening shadows and the stars appear/and there is no one there to dry your tears/I could hold you for a million years/to make you feel my love. *weeps* *sniffles*

If you want to listen to these or any of the other songs on this soundtrack, here you go!

And now I'd love to know what you're writing and which songs are inspiring you to write it!

Awesome playlist! As you saw, I have Haunted on mine too, but I think it fits SP better! This is making me want to go read SP all over again!

I love song inspirations/ and themes that fit with books. I've never put together a playlist to what I'm writing, but I'm fascinated by the idea of it. Love that Taylor Swift song and I don't gravitate toward pop or country much.

My current playlist is a little eclectic. Shinedown, Maroon 5, Adele, P!nk, Avril Lavigne, and the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt. :)
