Pep Rally Monday: Crushable Main Characters

Monday Pep Rally is a weekly feature where the Misfits post a question for you, the reader, to answer. You can answer on your own blog and link in the comments, or just answer here!

Ok. So unless you never pay attention to anything I say ever (and, let's face it, I sort of demand your attention through my constant stream of tweeting and my love for ALL THE CAPS), you know that I have a pretty extreme tendency to develop crushes on characters.

It's the first thing that makes me fall in love with a book. I can't help it. I've seen talk lately about readers growing tired of how it seems like every YA book has to have romance in it. I can appreciate that argument, and I fully agree that authors shouldn't feel like they absolutely have to include a romantic relationship in their books.

I, however, will never grow tired of them.

Some of my most passionate book crushes are:
Mr. Darcy, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Archer, Hex Hall series by Rachel Hawkins
Gus, The Fault In Our Stars by John Green
Peeta, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (Only Book One Peeta, though)
Plus let's just go ahead and say I'll crush on every male character Stephanie Perkins ever writes

I'll stop there but for real, I could go on forever.

OH! Eli from Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen

See?

And that's not even including all the unpublished manuscripts I've read. I crush on those even harder because I spend so much more time with them. I developed such a magnificent crush on one of my friend Sarah's characters that she changed his wife's name in her book to Megan. That's love, guys.

Do you have any character crushes? Tell me about two of them. One from a recent YA book, and one from a YA book that's been around for awhile. I want to know who, I want to know why, and I want to know if I should check them out!

Recent: Tod from Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series

Been around for a while...well, hopefully this counts because I really am in love with him: Jace from Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series

I haven't read any YA recently, but I do have an unreasonable crush on Lisbeth Salander.

As for past, I will always have a place in my heart for Hermione Granger. She's smart, sassy, and let's face it, Emma Watson is hot. (I can say that now that she's legal, right?) *crickets*

Two? I have to pick two? That's...cruel.

Okay, recent: Sam from Incarnate, because mmmm...smexy.

Older: (is two years older?) Joe from The Sky is Everywhere, because smexy musician.

(Oh and can I sneak in Warner from Shatter Me/Destroy Me? Because I love a bad boy. This picking two stuff is hard.)

I love Akiva from Daughter of Smoke and Bone! (for both shallow and non-shallow reasons)

I definitely love Darcy from Pride and Prejudice, one of my favorite novels.
