Pep Rally Monday: Favorite Book of 2012

Monday Pep Rally is a weekly feature where the Misfits post a question for you, the reader, to answer. You can answer on your own blog and link in the comments, or just answer here!

The year is (already!) almost over and I'd like to take a moment to look back at all the great books that were released this year. 2012 was a really big year in terms of YA. There was everything from Cinder by Marissa Meyer to The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater as well as additions to popular series such as Insurgent by Veronica Roth and A Million Suns by Beth Revis.

While my favorites for this year were What's Left of Me by Kat Zhang and The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, there were just so many books to choose from that I...honestly lost track.

So, dear Misfits, for this pep rally Monday, I present you with a very important question:

What was (or is, if the book you really want to read is being released later in the year) your favorite YA book of 2012? Would you recommend it? If so, why or why not?

I don't usually read books the year they were published because I hate hardcovers, but I bought THE FAULT IN OUR STARS by John Green and I absolutely loved it - definitely my favorite book of 2012. I'd recommend it, but only if you're prepared for a serious ugly cry.

I was going to say The Scorpio Races but turns out that came out late last year. Guess it just took me a while to read it.

So in that case, it's a toss-up between CINDER by Marissa Meyer and CODE NAME VERITY by Elizabeth Wein.

Though Dahlia's nomination is a pretty good candidate, too, actually.

Looking forward to reading the rest of the comments in this thread to get some more ideas for my to-read list. :)

I'm really looking forward to the release of Days of Blood and Starlight soon. The first book (Daughter of Smoke and Bone) was pretty interesting.

Oh my gosh, it's so hard to pick...I guess I'll go with a tie between INSURGENT by Veronica Roth and CODE NAME VERITY by Elizabeth Wein.

Absolutely CROWN OF EMBERS, which is the second book in the trilogy by Rae Carson. I feel like a broken record when I talk about my love for these books. This one has stayed constant in the midst of all the good reads.

THIS IS NOT A TEST by Courtney Summers totally rocked my world. It was like THE BREAKFAST CLUB meets zombies, with a dash of Sarah Dessen's DREAMLAND.

I can't believe it's almost November! Desperately trying to get as many more 2012 books read as I can before the end of the year, but here are my favorites so far:

FALSE MEMORY by Dan Krokos (sci-fi thriller)
AMELIA ANNE IS DEAD AND GONE by Kat Rosenfeld (mystery... and personally I feel this one is more New Adult than it is YA)
LIES BENEATH by Anne Greenwood Brown (modern-day fantasy)
GRAVE MERCY by Robin LaFevers (historical fic)
LIFE IS BUT A DREAM by Brian James (contemp)
DITCHED: A LOVE STORY by Robin Mellom (romantic comedy)
FRACTURE by Megan Miranda (sci-fi thriller)
CINDER by Marissa Meyer (futuristic sci-fi)
