Band Geek Thursday: Jamie's Playlist for Ultraviolet Catastrophe

I'll admit it. Most of the time I can't really write to music. At least music with words. It totally messes up the flow of my own words in my brain. BUT, there are certain scenes, certain areas where I want some additional emotion and feeling to come out, and that's when I pull out the play list.

I also listen to my playlists outside of writing, to keep my brain thinking about the story and to get me into the mood. Ultraviolet Catastrophe was one of those books that I was actually able to listen to music while drafting, and the playlist came together pretty easily for me. There are a few songs that have special meaning in the book:

It's Time - Imagine Dragons: This is basically the theme song for the whole book. I mean with lyrics like this, it's like it was written just for UVC!

So this is what you meant
When you said that you were spent
And now it's time to build from the bottom of the pit
Right to the top
Don't hold back
Packing my bags and giving the academy a rain check

I Won't Give Up - Jason Mraz: This is the song I used for all those romantic scenes in the book. It's the perfect theme song for Asher and Lexie.

The Tron: Legacy Soundtrack - Daft Punk: Remember when I said I can't write to music with words? Well this was my go-to background music. A little techno, a little sci-fi, and amazingly fitting while drafting and editing. It was the perfect soundtrack to listen to when I just needed *something* to listen to.

So what is this book about, you're probably wondering? Well, in a nutshell:

Lexie’s first assignment as a student at prestigious Quantum Technologies leads her to uncover a mistake in the master equation for an Einstein-Rosen bridge. Instead of a wormhole, this equation produces catastrophically uncontrollable ultraviolet rays. Except, it isn’t a mistake at all. It’s a carefully crafted plan that could devastate QT—and the rest of the universe. When the lead scientist turns up dead in the cryo chamber, Lexie knows she’s running out of time. Someone wants scientists eliminated and the correct formulas destroyed. And if she doesn’t find a way to stop them, she’ll be next.

So here's the playlist - hope you guys enjoy! And Happy Writing!
