Band Geek Thursdays: Lyla's Playlist for POINT BLANK

One of the first things I do whenever I start a project is build a playlist. Music plays an important role in my writing--inspiring me to begin a project, giving more insight about the world or characters, and motivating me to finish the novel when the going gets tough.

POINT BLANK was particularly a challenge for me because it was my first attempt at anything remotely sci-fi. Granted, it's a futuristic fantasy since it has shapeshifters as much as it has hoverboards, but I'd never written a novel set in the future before so it was rather daunting for me.

So what did I do? I listened to a lot of futuristic sounding music. In order to fully develop the characters and the story for this MS, I knew I needed to get the right feel for the world. And, like I'm sure many Hollywood directors would agree, what better way to get a feel for a fictional world than the music?

The year is 2250. Teenagers are trained for several years in military high schools to hunt down shapeshifters that hide in the nooks and crannies of the cities. My novel alternates from the point of view of a Tracker (Norah) and the Shifter she's trained for years to exterminate--Seth. For that reason, the songs on my playlist also alternate between the two. The first corresponds with Norah and the next corresponds with Seth and so on.

I hope you guys like the songs! Happy writing!
